Civil Project Engineer

As a Civil Project Engineer, this vital team member primarily serves as the lead engineer on roadway design projects and provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.  This position is responsible for leading the planning, engineering, and design of challenging community projects through interaction with team members, client leadership, utility providers, and other project stakeholders.  The ideal team member will be solution-focused and willing to proactively engage in a collaborative and supportive team leadership role. General tasks associated with this position include the following:

  • Lead or assist in the execution of multi-modal transportation design projects as well as ancillary civil design components.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, schedules, and cost estimates for assigned projects.
  • Oversees the design of projects and assists with plan development and plan production.
  • Assigns detailed tasks while providing technical oversight and assistance to project team members.
  • Reviews design drawings for accuracy and ensures adherence to quality control (QC) standards.
  • Participates in client engagement activities and supports proposal and business development activities.
  • Provides internal and external communications, letters, and e-mails to appropriate personnel on project execution related matters.
  • Initiates permitting through appropriate Federal, State and Local agencies while staying attuned to any additional permitting needs for the proposed activities.
  • Prepares bid documents containing technical specifications, design drawings, Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Construction Costs (EOPCC), and contractual terms and conditions.
  • Tracks project task schedules.
  • Occasional work-related travel to visit job sites or participate in client meetings.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

Required:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration (or the ability to obtain within 1 year of start date)
  • 3+ years of experience with DOT and/or municipal roadway projects
  • 3+ years of experience with MicroStation/Geopak, InRoads, or OpenRoads Designer

Preferred:

  • Extensive knowledge of roadway and infrastructure design
  • Experience with hydraulics, stormwater management practices, roadway drainage systems analysis and design, and erosion prevention and sediment control (EPSC) design
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Microsoft Projects or equivalent project scheduling software
  • Experience with Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat
